Honorees

John Unwin, CEO of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

As Chief Executive Officer of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas since its launch in 2010, John Unwin is responsible for leading this sophisticated, urban-minded resort at the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. As part of his vision for this 2,995 room resort, Unwin assembled a dream team of restaurants and chefs (among them Costas Spiliadis, Jose Andres, Scott Conant, David Myers, and Bruce and Eric Bromberg). This unique “neighborhood” of dining options that Unwin created has proven to be a popular destination for both visitors to the city and local residents, helping to make The Cosmopolitan one of the top-rated resorts.

In the summer of 2013, Unwin and his chef team visited The Sylvia Center at Katchkie Farm and cooked with a team of Sylvia Center teen students. Inspired by the teens’ skills and enthusiasm, Unwin made a commitment to support The Sylvia Center’s mission to teach children, teens and families the skills they need to be able to cook and feed themselves in a healthy, regular way.

The Teens and Families of The Sylvia Center’s Cooks For Health Program

Since The Sylvia Center was founded in 2007, our mission has been focused on inspiring young people to become healthy eaters. In 2011 we expanded the program to include teens and families, and now over a thousand participants complete the Cooks for Health Program each year. Our teen and family graduates lead the charge on helping their families establish healthy eating habits, bringing home new skills, new flavors, and healthy, affordable and delicious recipes.

At this year’s Art of Cooking benefit, we are thrilled to honor all the teens and families that we work with, for their interest in healthy eating, their hard work in class, and the passion for good food that they share everyday in their homes and communities.
