At this year’s Art of Cooking benefit dinner, supporters of The Sylvia Center gathered together to honor the teens and families we work with in New York City, along with John Unwin, CEO of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Throughout the night, supporters mingled with our teen chefs, their families and a cohort from Green City Force, a service corps organization TSC partners with that works with New York City Housing Authority young adults. Guests enjoyed a warm and delicious meal inspired by the teen chefs themselves, as honoree John Unwin shared stories on-stage about his moving experience at Katchkie Farm last fall, when he and his team of chefs spent the day cooking with Sylvia Center teen students.
The teens were recognized for their passion for good food that they share everyday in their homes and communities, and were presented with gifts to help them continue doing so—sets of essential kitchen equipment. For dessert, the teens were surprised with the opportunity to decorate their own cakes with Chef Rob from Great Performances.
With the generosity of our friends, families and supporters, we were able to surpass our fundraising goal at the event this year to raise over $550,000, which will—among other things—allow us to open a new site in 2015. Thank you to everyone who helped us make this year’s Art of Cooking such a success and so much fun!
